Map of where Companions offer its care services

Companions was set up in 2006 by Sue Shaw and Yvonne Gatley after almost 15 years of working in the care sector between them. They were invited to the Jubilee Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in 2012 for their outstanding service to the community, and this remains one of their proudest moments to date.

Sue has lived in Saddleworth all her life and has previously owned a number of local businesses, but it was her passion for being a helping hand for those in need, which led her to create Companions. Sue has a special interest in caring for those with Dementia and enjoys activities such as baking with her clients.

All of Companions’ staff are practiced in caring for clients with a wide range of needs, from those with Alzheimer’s to those who have short term mobility difficulties, and empathy and a mature outlook are essential to the carers role. We ensure they are fully checked by the Disclosure & Barring Service (formerly Criminal Records Bureau), give training and offer the opportunity to study for additional relevant qualifications. They are also local to the Saddleworth, Oldham and Tameside area so are confident of taking clients out and about. Contact us if you think you’ve got what it takes to join our team.

Our Senior Team

Lou is our office manager so often she is the first point of contact for clients when calling us. She looks after the administration side of Companions, so if you have any query she will be able to assist.

Lynne has worked for Companions since 2009 and has a role in the office as well as caring for those in the local community. She holds an NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care and is particularly experienced with taking clients on trips out and she enjoys preparing healthy and varied home cooked meals.

Diane is also qualified to Level 2 in NVQ in Health and Social Care and has been part of the team since 2007. She has in-depth knowledge of special educational needs and learning disabilities and has a sunny outlook on life, perfect for having fun with clients.
